July 22, 2021Motown In Nairobi is a musical experience that promises to deliver nostalgia with excellence. In its 6th year, Motown In Nairobi has become one of the city’s most anticipated annual concerts.
The concert will showcase music from the Motown record label, through the decades, performed by carefully selected singers and instrumentalists, who are really fun performers to watch. Previously featured acts include Mercy Myra, Aaron Rimbui, Maia von Lekow, Dela Maranga, Ian Mbugua, Kendi Nkonge and many others.
The very first edition of Motown In Nairobi was held in June 2013, in partnership with Edward Parseen, and successfully premiered at the Village Market with hundreds of people dancing and singing along to music from the good old days, which is still relevant to many, even today.
The 6th edition of Motown In Nairobi gets even better as June Gachui, Creator puts it, ‘This concept began with a conversation about entertainment options for a particular demographic of concert goers who want more quality and diversity in the entire going-out experience. I took on the challenge and called upon a number of partners, musicians and great performers to bring this concept to life! The result, 6 years ago,was the very first edition of Motown In Nairobi. My joy as the show’s producer has been to see how it has blossomed into a beautiful thing and for that I am grateful to the Motown cast, crew and the audience who we fondly refer to as ‘Motowners’. We are all one big family and we have space for more! Come celebrate, sing, dance and make merry with us!! We can’t wait to perform for you!
This concert explores everything that was glorious about music in that magical period; from costumes to styling to the stories behind the music, the artists and all these influence the song selection, the artists who are featured and of course the band... the entire production will marvel and entertain. David Hunter, Music Director says about the show, ‘Coming from America I was raised listening to the great music left by Motown's legacy. Having the opportunity to perform the same music that inspired me in one of Africa's most beautiful countries (Kenya) is a win-win for me. This show will take its audience back to when music actually made you "feel" something. Music saturated with warm, sensual, electrifying "LOVE", which is something that all of us, young and old, still appreciate. I'm honored to be sharing the stage with some of Kenya's finest artists who feel the same way about Motown music. This show promises to bring out all of those exciting feelings, live. As Lionel Richie said, “It’s gonna be a party!”’
The Motown In Nairobi 2018 concert will bring together stars like Noel Nderitu, Silayio, Edward Parseen, Patricia Kihoro, Viola Karuri, Angie Gachui, Chris Bittok, Nairobi Horns Project and Kaz just to name a few.
Their captivating and powerful stage presence coupled with visual effects and an enticing set design presents an exciting experience that you shouldn’t miss!
Creator, June Gachui is one of Kenya’s most sought out entertainers. Her level of production excellence is both coveted and expected in all that she touches. Motown 2018 is poised to blow the lid and continue to raise the bar to continually set a new standard of live performance and production in Kenya.
